DEX 2 Rose is and exciting new gelato cafe design in Melbourne located off a small alley way at 377 Little Bourke Street.

"LOVE. I know Melbourne likes kitch and fads, but I hope this fad lasts forever because Dex2rose is the best on the block when it comes to nitrogen gelato. Had the oolong tea and white grape gelato (Dragon something, I forgot) with rosewater coconut cream and was on cloud 9. Their cold brew coffee is the best I've had, hands down. Their menu changes up every 2 weeks so it's a repeat place for me, a standing invitation to visit and see what their next amazing concoctions are. I love the vibe too. Come before the lines get too long when word really gets out!"

This original building was an old office block and the customer wanted to recycle large sections of the wall cladding timber in this new retail cafe design.

The pine lining boards we decided to place on a 45 degree angle and recycle them into the new interior which achieved a strong contrast to the clean white subway tiles which were used in the counter cafe design.

As we stripped back the walls of the interior to their original raw concrete and brick work the textures were full of character and provided an integration between the raw iron entrance doors and the clean white laboratory style new kitchen design.

The light fittings are a cage metal design and the combination of wood and iron throughout the interior has created a very cool night spot for the inner city patron who is looking for a great place to enjoy some sweet treats or coffee at the end of the night.

Some of the walls in this building were structural so the gelato cafe design was space planned to fit the kitchen in between the structural walls at the rear with a cool room at the end of the room.

The back wall of the serving area was also structural and the position of the existing plumbing and services were taken into account when we were planning the construction drawings to minimise the cost of building this cafe design.

The owners are very passionate about creating new and delicious gelato flavours and this is a place which is really worth checking out because your taste buds will love you for it
